Mavericks Fight Back But Fall Short

Boston One Win Away From Title

The Boston Celtics are one win away from the 2024 NBA title after defeating the Dallas Mavericks in Game 1 of the Finals. The Celtics entered the game with some reason for hope after Celtics big man Kristaps Porzingis, one of Boston's best players in Games 1 and 2, was ruled out with an injury. But the Mavericks quickly erased any doubt that they would be an easy opponent, storming out to a 12-point lead in the first quarter. The Celtics chipped away at the lead throughout the second quarter, and eventually took the lead in the third quarter on a three-pointer by Jaylen Brown. Boston would never trail again, and they eventually pulled away for a 107-89 victory. Brown led the Celtics with 24 points, while Jayson Tatum added 23 points and 12 rebounds. Luka Doncic led the Mavericks with 31 points, but he was not able to get enough help from his teammates. The Mavericks will now need to win Game 2 on their home court if they want to keep their title hopes alive. Game 2 is scheduled for Sunday night at 8:00 PM ET.
